I began 2016 by meeting residents of Ickenham Village along with officers from Transport for London to discuss extending the Low Emissions Zone to include the whole village.
The boundary of the LEZ currently cuts the village in two, protecting one half and excluding the other. Residents living on the side not protected are concerned about health problems caused by pollution from heavy good vehicles travelling through the village to avoid paying the charge.
The LEZ covers the whole of London, which includes Ickenham, but TfL have said the boundary falls short of covering the whole village to give drivers of vehicles that don’t comply with the LEZ a chance to turn around. However, at the meeting residents presented new turn-around points that TfL must consider; it is unacceptable that the convenience of drivers is put before the health of residents.
